vorticidade relativa, para identificar v{\'o}rtices
cicl{\^o}nicos em altos n{\'{\i}}veis que atuam na regi{\~a}o
tropical. Esses sistemas sin{\'o}ticos s{\~a}o causadores de
totais de precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o significativos em algumas
{\'a}reas desta regi{\~a}o, como o Nordeste do Brasil, e
apresentam um movimento irregular que tornam as previs{\~o}es de
tempo complexas. A valida{\c{c}}{\~a}o do m{\'e}todo foi feita
para o per{\'{\i}}odo de 2002 a 2006 com dados de
Rean{\'a}lises do National Centers for Environmental
Prediction/National Centers for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR).
Neste estudo foram mostrados a distribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial
dos casos identificados no ver{\~a}o de 2002-2003, e o
n{\'u}mero de ocorr{\^e}ncia dos v{\'o}rtices obtido pela
valida{\c{c}}{\~a}o do m{\'e}todo e por imagens de
sat{\'e}lite no canal do vapor d{\'a}gua, fornecidas pela
Divis{\~a}o de sat{\'e}lite Ambiental (DAS) do Centro de
Previs{\~a}o de Tempo e Estudos Clim{\'a}ticos (CPTEC/INPE). Os
resultados mostraram bom desempenho do m{\'e}todo em identificar
algumas caracter{\'{\i}}sticas dos sistemas, como: n{\'u}mero
de ocorr{\^e}ncia, posicionamento, deslocamento e regi{\~a}o de
forma{\c{c}}{\~a}o, embora tenham identificado um caso a mais em
alguns anos do per{\'{\i}}odo em estudo. As imagens de
sat{\'e}lite identificaram um n{\'u}mero de v{\'o}rtices
inferior em todos os anos, embora com pequena diferen{\c{c}}a.
ABSTRACT: This study develops a objetive method based in relative
vorticity to identify the upper-tropospheric cyclonic vortices
that form in the tropical region. Significant total precipitation
is provoked by this synoptic system in some areas of this region,
as the notheast Brazil. This system shows a irregular moviment
becaming complex the wheather forecasts. The objetive method
validation was made using Reanalysis data from the National
Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for
Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) from 2002 to 2006. In this study
we showed just the spatial distribution of events that was
identified during the summer 2002-2003, beside the vortex number
ocorrence identified by the method and the water vapour channel
satellite pictures provided by Divis{\~a}o de sat{\'e}lite
Ambiental (DSA) of Centro de Previs{\~a}o de Tempo e Estudos
Clim{\'a}ticos (CPTEC/INPE). The results showed that the method
performace has a good skill to identify some characterists of this
system as: ocorrence number, position, displecement and formation
region, although one more event was identified in some years by
the objetive method. In the satellite pictures was identificated a
lower number of vortices in every years.",
