%X The aim of this paper is to assess the potential of the near infrared band acquired by a conventional digital camera (Sony F828) converted to have this feature. The acquisition system is composed of two Hasselblad 22 megapixel cameras and one infrared converted. Unsupervised classification was applied in the two sets of images: one including the infrared and another one without the infrared. The parameters of region growing segmentation designed for multispectral image and classification for both sets were the same. The results indicated that the infrared image, even having been acquired by a conventional digital camera, improves target discrimination. The results obtained from two high resolution images, acquired over São José dos Campos, will be presented in this paper.
