Leading-edge bluntness e®ects on the °ow¯eld properties have been investigated by employing the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method. The results highlight the sensitivity of velocity, density, pressure and temperature distributions upstream and adjacent of the leading edges for four di®erent nose radius in order to assess the relative importance of leading-edge bluntness and the underwedge-surface angle. Some signi¯cant di®erences between sharp and blunt leading edges were noted on the °ow¯eld properties. The analysis showed that small leading edge thickness, compared to the freestream mean free path, still has important e®ects on high Mach number leading edge °ows. The analysis is of great importance since it is impossible to achieve ideally sharp leading edges of airframes such as waveriders. %@mirrorrepository sid.inpe.br/mtc-m18@80/2008/03.17.15.17.24 %T Flowfield characteristics of sharp/blunt leading edges for hypersonic waverider configurations %@tertiarytype Paper %@secondarytype PRE CI %8 2009 %@visibility shown %@group LCP-CTE-INPE-MCT-BR %@e-mailaddress ignes@lcp.inpe.br %J Washington, DC %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m18@80/2009/04.01.12.44.27 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %I AIAA %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m18@80/2009/04.01.12.44 %D 2009 %1 AIAA %S Proceedings %A Santos, Wilson Fernando Nogueira, %C Orlando, FL %@area COMB
