It discusses two major different markets: hybrid PVDiesel installations in mini-grids of the off-grid Brazilian electricity system in the Amazon region, and gridconnected PV in urban areas of the interconnected Brazilian electricity system. The potential for using PV is huge, and can be estimated in tens to hundreds of MWp in the Amazon region alone, even if only a fraction of the existing Diesel-fired plants with a total installed capacity of over 620MVA would fit to run in an optimum Diesel/PV mix. Most of the major cities in Brazil present greater electricity demand in summertime with the demand peak happening in the daytime period. This energy profile match the actual solar resource assessment provided by SWERA Data Archive, enabling grid-connected PV systems to provide an important contribution to the utilitys capacity. %8 Aug. %N 8 %@secondarydate 200808 %T Solar Energy scenarios in Brazil, part two: Photovoltaics applications %@secondarytype PRE PI %K photovoltaics energy, swera, energy scenarios. %@group DMA-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %@group %@group DMA-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %@e-mailaddress deicy@cptec.inpe.br %@secondarykey INPE--PRE/ %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE/CPTEC) %@affiliation Solar Energy Laboratory, University of Santa Catarina, LABSOLAR-UFSC, Campus Universita´rio Trindade, Floriano´polis, Santa Catarina 88040-900, Brazil %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE/CPTEC) %@affiliation Centro Federal de Educac-a˜o Tecnolo´gica de Santa Catarina– CEFET-SC, Rua Jose´ Lino Kretzer 608, Sa˜o Jose´ (SC), Santa Catarina 88103-310, Brazil %B Energy Policy %P 2855-2867 %D 2008 %V 36 %@doi 10.1016/j.enpol.2008.04.001 %A Martins, Fernando Ramos, %A Ruther, R., %A Pereira, Enio Bueno, %A Abreu, S.
