ABSTRACT: This paper presents lightning characterization, from the data and processing obtained from the Lightning Location and Detection Brazilian Network (BrasilDat) in the period between 2004 and 2007, using the point of view of geophysicist, specifically the rise time, pulse width and maximum rate of rise parameters have not characterized in Brazil. These new properties help to improve knowledge in the area of atmospheric electricity, particularly about the lightning interaction with urban areas. It also presents a methodology to evaluation the vulnerability of systems and facilities located on the earth surface, such as telecommunications, communications, electrical, civil defense, aerospace, industrial and forest parks, also humans, against cloud-to-ground lightning (lightning). It was used as a sample of the systems most affected by these phenomena, the electrical system, in Campinas city located in the state of Sao Paulo. The methodology subsidizes the definition of measures and preventive actions to reduce the consequences of these events, providing better life quality, products and services, and thus the conditions for sustainable development. Take into account a best knowledge and characterization of these cloud-to-ground lightning and the indices of vulnerability in the systems located on the earth, it becomes possible to provide an adequate protection or improve an existent, reducing or eliminating the risks and damage. |
